This position involves the day-to-day management of various types of retail, commercial and light industrial construction projects. Responsibilities include interacting and communicating with clients, subcontractors and suppliers all the while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and an adherence to a strong ethical code. This position will include a strong emphasis on developing and managing construction schedules, as well as problem solving. This position will require excellent negotiation skills when dealing with owners, prime consultants and subcontractors on scope, price and schedule. This person will also be responsible for assisting in the estimating of future projects and preparing competitive bids for the market. Additional skill set requirement include a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Project and Word. The ideal candidate must be a self starter, detail oriented, well organized and a team player.

This position requires at least 10 years of solid supervisory experience in the retail, commercial and light industrial fields. This person will be responsible for the on-site supervision of projects, including scheduling and coordination of the trades, ensuring quality control, enforcing close adherence to provincial and company safety standards. Another key requirement of this position is the ability to create accurate and timely documentation and record keeping during the “heat of battle”. Essential is a stellar track record of completing projects on-time and within budget. In this position, a high level of communication skill, both written and verbal are vital. The ideal candidate must be well rounded in knowledge, a team player and be able to provide excellent leadership to the field forces.

This position requires proven skills in conceptual and hard-bid estimating. A complete understanding of the preconstruction process including estimating, value-engineering, scheduling, and field operations will be an asset. A proven ability to foster and develop subcontractor and supplier relationships as well as keen attention to detail in gathering, calculating, and compiling take-off data for use in bid proposals and estimates. Duties would include maintaining current and accurate information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors, utilizing standard estimate computer software to present information to management and assisting the project management team after award.

Must have a minimum of five years carpenter experience as well as good communication, job coordination and extensive rough and finish carpentry skills. A good working knowledge of related building trades and the ability to interact and communicate well with crew members and subcontractors would be considered a strong asset. This position requires that one be available for extended work hours as required, be able to travel, have a reliable work vehicle as well as a driver’s license and a good driving record. Personal hand tools are a necessity.

Must be able to understand instructions and take direction from superintendent/ foremen in performing construction labour. Ideal candidates need to be willing to travel, work extended hours and safely perform a wide variety of tasks on retail, commercial or light industrial construction projects. Tasks may be: basic carpentry, tying rebar, setting concrete forms, pouring/finishing concrete, clean up, etc.
